Property Disposal Services
GSA can assist federal agencies with their personal or real property disposal needs.
Personal and Technology Property Disposal
Visit Personal Property Disposal to learn more about the tools, services, and solutions available to GSA's federal customers. Federal agency property managers can read Disposition - the national newsletter devoted to the initiatives of the GSA Property Management Program.
The Federal Surplus Personal Property Donation Program enables certain nonfederal organizations to obtain property that the federal government no longer needs.
Property the government does not need is considered "surplus" and if the property cannot be donated to a state or public agency, nonprofit organization, it is sold to the general public.
GSA Auctions® has been developed to offer the general public the opportunity to bid electronically on many federal assets. The auctions are completely web-enabled, allowing all registered participants to bid on a single item or multiple items (lots) within specified timeframes. For more information or to search and bid on available property, visit GSA Auctions®.
Real Property Disposal
The process for federal agencies to declare and dispose of federal real property (buildings, land, warehouses, etc.) is mandated by federal law. Under the authority of the Federal Property & Administrative Services Act, property can be:
- transferred from one agency to another;
- excessed via discount conveyance to state and local governments for public benefits such as educational, public health, parks and recreational uses, and more;
- sold via negotiated sale to state and local governments; or
- sold to the public via competitive sales.
Visit Real Property Disposal for helpful information regarding laws, regulations, authorities and policies pertaining to federal real property disposal.
