GSA's McBurney Named Senior Advisor

WASHINGTON, DC - Stephen A. Perry, administrator of the U.S. General Services Administration today named Shawn McBurney as Senior Advisor, Office of the Administrator. Most recently, Mr. McBurney served as Associate Administrator for GSA's Office of Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs. His new position is effective July 7, 2003.

"Shawn's training and experience will be invaluable to GSA as we work toward making long-range asset management decisions critical to improving government performance and forge ahead with other critical projects," said Administrator Perry. "Shawn has been, and will continue to be, a key player on the GSA executive team."

As the Senior Advisor, Mr. McBurney will coordinate and implement ad hoc projects of importance to GSA involving Congress. He will also advise the Administrator and Deputy Administrator on agency efforts regarding property management reform.

"I'm delighted the Administrator has asked me to join his office and I look forward to working with him in moving President Bush's agenda forward," said Mr. McBurney.

Before arriving at GSA, Mr. McBurney was the director of government relations with Citizens Against Government Waste, a taxpayer watchdog group. He also served for six years as the special assistant and senior advisor to U.S. Representative Ed Royce where he had responsibility for the development and implementation of legislative initiatives and strategies.

Mr. McBurney earned an undergraduate degree in political science from University of California, Los Angeles in 1987. He currently resides in Fairfax, Va., with his family.

Gayland Barksdale, GSA's Senior Advisor for the Office of Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs, will serve as acting Associate Administrator for that office effective immediately.
