Denver Federal Center Launches Bike Share Program

(DENVER, CO) -- The U.S. General Services Administration Denver Federal Center B-Cycle bike sharing system launched today, bringing a new, healthy, eco-friendly alternative to motorized transportation for short trips around the 623-acre campus. The more than 6,000 campus tenants now have access to 50 bikes docked at six stations.“This is an exciting time for us and our campus tenants,” said Susan Damour, Rocky Mountain Regional Administrator. “Through efforts like this and others, we continue to reduce our government’s environmental footprints while offering tenants better connectivity between buildings as well as increased access to public transportation.”

The program supports the DFC’s goal of becoming the most sustainable federal campus in the country by 2020.  These bikes help reduce greenhouse gas emissions in accordance with Executive Order 13514, provide carbon-free connectivity between campus buildings, make connecting to the RTD transit station easier, and promote physical activity for tenants.

This pilot program is open to all campus tenants free of charge for the current year and will place the DFC campus one step closer to its goal of becoming the most sustainable campus in the U.S. by 2020. GSA has signed up approximately 440 members with the goal of registering 15% of the campus tenants during the pilot season.

The bikes are designed specifically for urban use, featuring three speeds, fenders, a handlebar basket, adjustable seat, and easy-to-use step-through frame. Users can check out a bike from any self-service station using a personal access card and return it to any other station located on the campus. Bikes can be returned at any of the six kiosks throughout the campus.

The bikes use electronics to keep track of members and they allow riders to track data such as distance, duration, calories burned, and carbon offset.  For more information, go to
