WASHINGTON, April 18, 2011 – GSA’s Office of Citizen Services and Innovative Technologies has launched its popular USA.gov Blog on the Tumblr social networking platform.
GSA worked out a terms of service agreement with Tumblr and is the first agency to use the social blogging service. All agencies can use Tumblr because of the terms of service agreement GSA negotiated.
The USA.gov blog shares timely and informative posts about a variety of topics, such as reverse mortgages, obesity trends in the country, and avoiding tax refund fees.
The USA.gov blog is an out-growth of GSA’s first blog, GovGab. The GovGab blog was one of the first federal blogs and was created to provide helpful government information in the new social media format.
OCSIT took the best of GovGab and rebranded it under USA.gov to make it easier to find by using a recognizable brand. The new platform also allows GSA to highlight information that is in the news and in demand by the public. The content on the tsunami and earthquake in Japan, for example, was extremely popular.
