GSA Per Diem Advisory Board Holds Monthly Meetings

Washington, DC -- The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) established the Governmentwide Per Diem Advisory Board (Board) to improve the current per diem process and to provide advice on best practices for a federal lodging program. Its goal is to ensure the 93,000 Federal employees on travel every business day can meet their mission requirements.

The Board will hold monthly meetings until December 2002 to ensure that GSA can consider its recommendations for the FY 2004 per diem cycle. The next open meeting will be held August 13 from 8:00-4:00 p.m. at the Council on Foundations Conference Center, 1828 L Street, NW, Suite 505, Washington, DC 20036.

The 13-member Board represents a cross-section of Government and industry. Members were appointed by the GSA Administrator Stephen A. Perry. They represent national travel industry association executives as well as representatives from both federal and state governments.

At its first meeting on July 10, Lori Brooks of National Defense Transportation Association (NDTA) was unanimously elected chairperson of the Per Diem Advisory Board. Ashley DeJesu of Galileo International was elected chair of the lodging committee and Julienne Sugarek, Texas Buildings and Procurement Commission, was elected chair of the per diem committee. Bill Rivers, Director of GSA's Office of Federal Vehicle Management Policy and Program Executive for GSA's Federal Premier Lodging Program, was appointed by GSA as Vice Chairman.

Other board members are Cheryl Hutchinson, Association of Corporate Travel Executives (ACTE); Jerome C. Molitor, Northrop Grumman Corporation; Scott Lamb, Society of Government Travel Professionals (SGTP), National Director of Sales - Government, Prime Hospitality Corp. AmeriSuites/Wellesley Inns & Suites; Roy Sammarco, Chief, Economics and Statistics Branch, Department of Defense; Mary Sarkis, American Hotel Lodging Association, Choice Hotels International; Juanita P. Stokes, Office of Allowances, United States; Department of State; Norm Wilson, Program Manager, Statewide Travel Management; Claudia Bonetti, Lockheed Martin Corporation; and Timothy J. Burke, Director, GSA.

The Board, which is subject to the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA), will report its findings and recommendations to the GSA Deputy Associate Administrator for Transportation and Personal Property.
