WASHINGTON, DC - Internet threats to the Federal Information Infrastructure are increasing. To help guard against these threats, the General Services Administration, Federal Technology Service's Federal Computer Incident Response Center (FedCIRC) has selected SAIC partner "Global Integrity" to augment the day-to-day incident handling and response services to the Federal civilian agencies and departments of government.

"We need tomorrow's network defense capabilities today and SAIC will add significantly to the FedCIRC cyber defense arsenal," said Sandra Bates, the Commissioner of the GSA Federal Technology Service.

FedCIRC provides containment and recovery assistance to components of government that have been victims of computer security related events such as an unauthorized intrusion, computer virus and other occurrences posing a threat to information technology resources supporting critical mission functions.

FedCIRC already employs the highly technical staff of Carnegie Mellon University's CERT Coordination Center. The Center will refocus its talents on more in-depth analysis of malicious computer code, attack methodologies and vulnerabilities in computer operating systems as SAIC assumes the incident handling responsibilities.

SAIC's Global Integrity is headquartered in Reston, Virginia, and has offices in London and Tokyo. The positioning of these offices will improve response time to developing threats by giving the government an additional 5 to 12 hours for preparation and development of strategic defenses for those events that "follow the sun."
