Contractor Misses IT Delivery Date

GSA and FBI Working to Ensure Delivery
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U. S. General Services Administration (GSA) announced today that Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) failed to meet a critical delivery date for implementation of a portion of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's (FBI) information technology upgrades.
The upgrades are part of the FBI's plan to transform its technology with high-speed networks, state of the art computers and user applications. This delay impacts the Information Presentation component of the three-phase plan. Phase one was completed when more than 21,000 new desktops, as well as new printers and scanners, were deployed throughout the FBI. Phase two of the plan was completed March 28, 2003, with deployment of the FBI's state of the art Wide Area Network to 595 sites and including 622 Local Area Networks, 2,612 switches and routers, and 291 servers.
CSC's failure to meet its delivery date will prevent the FBI from fully deploying the third component, User Applications, by December 13, 2003. The User Applications phase includes the "Virtual Case File."
GSA is working with both CSC and the FBI to determine an immediate corrective course of action. In the interim, the FBI is continuing to train its 28,000 employees on all operational phases of the information technology upgrades.
GSA officials continue to work with CSC to ensure that they deliver the contracted services, as promised despite the most recent delay. "Customer service and satisfaction are of critical importance to the Federal Technology Service," said Bob Suda, Federal Technology Service Assistant commissioner for IT Solutions. "While we are disappointed with the missed deadline, GSA is fully committed to working with the FBI and CSC to ensure the successful completion of the FBI's information technology upgrades."
