New GSA Report Says Quantifiable Results

WASHINGTON– The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) today announced the release of "How The President's Management Agenda Has Helped GSA Achieve Results," a 16-page report identifying specific initiatives from the President's Management Agenda (PMA) that have enabled GSA to achieve quantifiable results in the last three years.
The President challenged GSA for the first time to define what we should achieve as an agency," said GSA Administrator Stephen A. Perry. "It’s part of his directive for a culture change in government, and at GSA we’re meeting that challenge by building a strong foundation for achieving a results-oriented organization."
Among its findings, the GSA report includes discussion of initiatives that:
- Link budget to performance so GSA associates have clear goals and objectives to measure program success;
- Strengthen financial management so managers can make sound business decisions using accurate data;
- Reduced spending by more than $2 million by applying competitive sourcing to commercial operations;
- Reduced the time it takes to fill positions to less than 45 days; and,
- Launched USA Services -- a single, electronic "front door" to federal information and services.
GSA’s information is part of a more comprehensive report released Monday by the Office of Management and Budget describing how the federal government is focused on results with the help of the PMA. OMB’s “A Report to Federal Employees: The Federal Government is Results-Oriented,” may be viewed at Results.gov.
GSA is a centralized federal procurement and property management agency created by Congress to improve government efficiency and help federal agencies better serve the public. It acquires, on behalf of federal agencies, office space, equipment, telecommunications, information technology, supplies and services. GSA, comprised of 13,000 associates, provides services and solutions for the office operations of over 1 million federal workers located in more than 8,000 government-owned and leased buildings in 2,000 U.S. communities.
