'Government Computer News' Honors GSA's John C. Johnson as 2007 Civilian Executive of the Year

Washington – One of the key leaders in the U.S. General Services Administration’s Federal Acquisition Service (FAS) will soon be honored when Government Computer News holds its 20th annual Executives of the Year awards gala.

John C. Johnson, FAS Assistant Commissioner for Integrated Technology Services recently was named as the winner of GCN’s 2007 Civilian Executive of the Year, one of the three categories awarded.  The magazine also named a DoD and Industry Executive of the Year, and awarded a special commendation for Government IT Service. This year’s winners are:

  • Civilian Executive of the Year: John C. Johnson, Assistant Commissioner for ITS, GSA
  • Government DoD Executive of the Year: General James E. Cartwright, U.S. Marine Corps, Commander, U.S. Strategic Command
  • Industry Executive of the Year: Diana L. Gowen, Senior Vice President, Qwest, Government Services Division
  • Special Commendation for Government IT Service: Kevin Carroll, Program Executive Officer, U.S. Army

The award will be presented to Assistant Commissioner Johnson at a black-tie dinner on October 24, 2007, at the Hilton Washington & Towers in Washington, DC.

During his tenure at GSA, Mr. Johnson’s record of successes includes developing new network services programs while managing the FTS 2001 and Crossover contracts, several satellite service contracts as well as the Federal Wireless Program.  Additionally, he’s been instrumental in the successful development of the Networx, Alliant and SATCOM-II contracts.

The awards, selected by PostNewsweek Tech Media’s editorial team, recognize technology excellence in government by individuals who have shown innovation, dedication, and excellence in their achievements over the past year. Honorees represent the highest levels of performance in providing effective solutions with a mission-critical focus.
