GSA Mid-Atlantic Facilities divert Electronic Waste as part of America Recycles Day
The GSA Mid-Atlantic Region Green Team sponsored an electronic waste collection drive as part of the annual America Recycles Day, which occurred on November 15, 2013. The team worked with local field office representatives from the East Philadelphia, Delaware Valley, Baltimore, and Pittsburgh Field Offices to coordinate a collection period for GSA owned facilities from November 4-15. Ten buildings were able to participate with a total collection of 32,346 lbs. (excluding Pittsburgh area buildings) that was collected by E-Force Compliance, a local Philadelphia organization that recycles 100% of all collected electronic waste. The Green Team would like to extend a sincere thanks to all who helped coordinate this year's event.
GSA Mid-Atlantic Region saves City of Richmond upwards of $100,000
GSA Mid-Atlantic Personal Property Management Division recently completed a State Agency for Surplus Property Review for the state of Virginia's program. The review showed that the City of Richmond used the program to furnish their office buildings, saving them upwards of $100,000. The powerful and positive relationship GSA Personal Property Management has with its state counterparts and state agencies can be seen and felt through this invaluable program, providing state agencies with the goods they need to carry out their missions, while prolonging the life of the federal asset and saving taxpayers money on every level.
Greenbuild Conference to include Presentation by Mid-Atlantic Regional Administrator Sara Manzano-Diaz and Tour of Historic U.S. Custom House in Philadelphia
The 2013 Greenbuild International Conference and Expo, scheduled November 20-22 in Philadelphia, featured a presentation by Mid-Atlantic Regional Administrator Sara Manzano-Diaz, along with a tour of the recently renovated historic U.S. Custom House. Greenbuild is the world's largest conference and expo dedicated to green building and brings together industry leaders, experts and frontline professionals in the field of sustainable building design. Recent energy upgrades at the U.S. Custom House, which is certified Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Existing Buildings, or LEED-EBOM, included a green roof installation, energy efficient light fixtures, and high efficiency boilers.
