GSA Announces Date of Public Auction for Georgetown West Heating Plant
Dec. 17, 2012
WASHINGTON -- Today, the General Services Administration (GSA) issued an Invitation for Bids (IFB) for the Georgetown West Heating Plant in Washington, D.C. An online auction is set to begin January 18, 2013 with a soft closing date of February 19, 2013.
This IFB is the latest action in the agency’s ongoing commitment to support President Obama’s directive to reduce the federal government’s real estate footprint by making more efficient use of properties through innovative and cost-saving disposal initiatives. To date, GSA has sold or transferred more than 100 excess properties nationwide in the past year.
“GSA remains dedicated to responsibly and efficiently disposing of the Georgetown West Heating Plant,” said Acting Administrator Dan Tangherlini. “This auction is the latest step in our effort to get this excess facility off of our books while creating the greatest possible value for taxpayers.”
In October, GSA held an industry day giving potential bidders the opportunity to preview the property before the auction launch. The plant, a historic 2.08-acre site near the Georgetown Waterfront, served as a heating source for government facilities from 1948 to 2000. The auction officially closes after a 24-hour period of no activity after the soft closing date. To access the online auction, visit realestatesales.gov.
