GSA Shares Information on Mail Anthrax Threats

Washington, DC - The U.S. General Services Administration is sharing information with federal workers who sort, deliver or open mail on how to handle anthrax threats. GSA is using the Internet to get the word out to the federal government, from mail handlers to senior leaders. The material is free at http://www.gsa.gov.

"We want all federal workers to know what to do and who to call when an anthrax threat is suspected," said Stephen A. Perry, GSA Administrator. The web-based material is based on an online course developed by GSA in cooperation with the Centers for Disease Control; the Federal Bureau of Investigation; Bureau of Alcohol; Tobacco, and Firearms; the Postal Inspection Service; Defense Threat Reduction Agency; and Federal Protective Service.

The web site offers basic training and an advanced tutorial. The advanced tutorial is aimed at senior managers and mail managers of federal mail centers. The basic training is geared to people who actually sort, deliver, and open mail for federal agencies. Go to http://www.gsa.gov and click on anthrax training under "Hot Items" in the left column.

The Mail Communications Policy Office in the GSA Office of Governmentwide Policy works with federal agencies to develop and improve mail management.
