WASHINGTON - The U.S. General Services Administration's (GSA) five-month, "Ten-City Tour" to provide tips to women-owned businesses on how to submit offers to become Federal Supply Schedule Contract Holders, kicks off in St. Louis, Mo., Thursday, June 29.

GSA's Federal Supply Schedule Contracts are the preferred method of procurement for DOD activities and many civilian agencies.

"The Office of Enterprise Development is committed to helping GSA meet and exceed the president's mandate to award 5% of the government's contract dollars to women entrepreneurs," said Jackie Robinson, Associate Administrator for Enterprise Development, which runs the program. "The role of this office is to increase the participation of small, minority- and women-owned businesses in the $10.6 billion Federal Supply Schedule procurement program.

"The Clinton Administration's outreach efforts have dramatically increased the number of GSA's procurement with women-owned businesses -- to $352 million in 1999, up from $97 million in 1992. This administration's commitment has led to many initiatives that really benefit America's 9.1 million women business owners."

The workshops, which also are open to other small, minority-owned businesses, are scheduled for 8 a.m. to noon. They will provide opportunities to meet procurement officers from agencies that use GSA Federal Supply Service schedule contracts and learn to prepare offers that would appear on those schedules, the preferred federal source for products and services.
The workshop registration fee is $15, cash at the door only. To receive a registration form for any of the workshops, please RSVP via e-mail to one of the following: shaunta.dudley@gsa.gov; yolanda.king@gsa.gov; elizabeth.ivey@gsa.gov.
