GSA Awards Iridium Communication Services Contract to Motorola(Corrected copy)

WASHINGTON, DC -- The U.S. General Services Administration's Federal Technology Service (FTS), awarded a contract to Motorola Worldwide Information Network Services for Motorola satellite communications products and Iridium services on April 29. This indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract can be used by all Federal agencies. The contract has a base period of one year, plus two six-month options and is worth $26 million.
This is the fourth in a series of FTS contracts awarded for satellite services. The others were awarded to Hughes Global Services, John A Tidrow and Associates, and Dulles Networking Associates.
The contract offers the government access to such features as voice, paging, and voice mail. Switching among media (satellite to cell service or cell to cell) will require some user intervention.
To facilitate responsiveness to government customers, Motorola will provide a level of electronic commerce on its Internet website, http://m-wins.motorola.com, that describes products and services, generates order forms and provides government customers contact with an Motorola employee to answer questions.
