Kris E. Durmer - General Counsel
Kris E. Durmer was appointed GSA's general counsel, effective Sept. 21, 2009.
In this role, Durmer assumes daily management of GSA's Office of General Counsel and oversees the legal affairs of the agency. He advises the administrator and other officials of the agency on all areas of the agency's mission. These include contracting, information technology, travel and transportation, real estate, construction, litigation, personnel and labor relations, equal employment, GSA fleet, and personal property management and disposal.
In this position, Durmer supervises the attorneys presenting the government's defense against protests challenging the agency's actions in conducting acquisitions and against contract claims for the contracts under his office's responsibility.
Durmer has decades of experience as a litigator and has served on the boards of many national and local organizations. He entered the private practice of law in New Hampshire in 1979, and was most recently Director of Smith-Weiss, Shepard & Durmer P.C. in Nashua, N.H..
Durmer was a presidential appointee to the board of directors of Sallie Mae, serving as vice chair in 1997 and acting chair from 1997 to 1998. He has also served on the board of trustees of Sacred Heart University, Fairfield, Conn., and on the board of directors for the Nashua Home Health and Hospice Care Agency. He was a commissioner of the Nashua Housing Authority from 1982 to 2000.
Durmer received a bachelor’s degree from the University of New Hampshire in Durham and a Juris Doctor from the Franklin Pierce Law Center.
