Sylvia L. Hernandez - Acting Regional Administrator, Greater Southwest Region
Sylvia L. Hernandez was appointed as Acting Regional Administrator for the U.S. General Services Administration’s Greater Southwest Region effective June 23, 2012.
As Acting Regional Administrator, Acting RA Hernandez oversees all of GSA’s activities in Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas; including management of federal real estate and information technology. She is responsible for an inventory of 1,350 government-owned buildings.
Prior to her appointment, Hernandez served as Director for the Technical Services Division, Federal Acquisition Service (FAS), in the GSA Greater Southwest Region. In this position, Hernandez was responsible for the overall planning, management and direction of the GSA regional Network Services and Assisted Acquisition Services business lines. Combined, the business lines generated over $250M in annual revenue. In 2010, Hernandez received the prestigious FAS Commissioner’s Award for her leadership in providing turn-key solutions for federal customers in the acquisition and implementation of network infrastructure in federal space. Hernandez’s career spans over 32 years of service with GSA. She has worked in numerous leadership positions including positions at GSA Headquarters. In 2009, Hernandez served as the Acting Deputy Regional Administrator for the Greater Southwest Region.
Hernandez holds Bachelor of Arts degrees from the New Mexico State University and the University of Texas at Arlington. She also earned a Master's Certification in Telecommunications Management from the University of Dallas, Texas.
