GSA Names Deputy Administrator to Head Environmental Effort

WASHINGTON, DC – Deputy Administrator David Bibb will lead U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) efforts to help federal agencies comply with President Bush’s 2007 Executive Order, “Strengthening Federal Environmental, Energy, and Transportation Management,” Administrator Lurita Doan announced today.

“David has a tremendous amount of experience, and I am proud that he will represent GSA, as it supports President Bush and other agencies with this critical effort,” Doan said. “As the premier federal procurement agency, GSA provides buildings with sustainable design and helps agencies buy environmentally friendly services and products.”

GSA’s Multiple Award Schedules offer a list of businesses approved to sell federal agencies everything from environmental assessments and energy management programs to recycled paper, fluorescent lighting, paints, chemicals, pollution-prevention systems. GSA helps agencies reduce petroleum consumption by offering alternative fuel vehicles and hybrid electric vehicles for lease and purchase.

GSA requires all new construction projects and major renovations to meet or exceed the highest ratings of the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System, the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings.
