GSA Wins American Institute of Architects Award

Washington, DC – The U.S. General Services Administration was recognized by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) as a recipient of the 2007 Institute Honors for Collaborative Achievement at a ceremony on May 3rd. The award acknowledges the distinguished work of GSA’s Office of the Chief Architect and the Design Excellence Program.

“This award pays tribute to the success of our program.  By collaborating with the highest caliber of architects, we are creating a legacy of public architecture that continues to enrich and revitalize American communities,” said David Winstead, GSA’s Commissioner for the Public Buildings Service.

GSA’s design excellence program is now in its second decade.  This program continues to create public buildings that enhance cities and towns, inspire the public and teach America’s values. GSA ensures the facilities are environmentally responsible and safe, at the same time communicating what the government represents through art and architecture. The influence of this program also reaches to other public agencies and the private sector.

The AIA presented this award to GSA at its 2007 National Convention and Design Exposition in San Antonio, Texas. For the past 150 years, members of the AIA have worked to create valuable, stable, and cost-effective buildings.
