Costa Honored by Leadership Greater Washington

WASHINGTON—Anthony E. Costa, Deputy Commissioner for the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) Public Buildings Service (PBS), received the 2008 Walter Washington District Champion, the agency announced today. The ceremony took place at the Leadership Greater Washington’s Annual Gala. This annual award salutes the outstanding leadership by a federal official whose performance most meaningfully served the people of the District of Columbia and its surrounding areas.
“I’m proud but not surprised that Tony has received this prestigious award,” said GSA Administrator Lurita Doan. “His talent and efforts have helped forge a hugely successful and productive relationship between the Federal government, GSA and the District that I’m certain will blossom further in the future.”
Mr. Costa was appointed as PBS Deputy Commissioner in 2004, and serves as the agency’s Chief Operating Officer for a national real estate portfolio of 352 million square feet of space in over 8,600 owned and leased buildings. Prior to his position of Deputy Commissioner, Mr. Costa was the PBS Assistant Regional Administrator responsible for the operations of 96 million square feet of space in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area. During this time, he was involved in several landmark projects in the city—the Southeast Federal Center, the Hotel Monaco, revitalization of the North of Massachusetts Avenue (NOMA) corridor and the redevelopment of St. Elizabeths West Campus. He has more than twenty years of experience with GSA.
“Tony Costa is very deserving of this award,” said David Winstead, GSA’s Commissioner of Public Buildings. “He works very hard, working with city and congressional leaders, to make sure that the federal presence is enriching the lives of citizens in the Washington Metropolitan area.”
The award is named in honor of the late Walter Washington who served as the first-elected mayor of Washington, DC.
