Douglas Land Port of Entry
Located in Douglas, Arizona, this Land Port of Entry (LPOE) processes privately owned vehicles (POVs) and pedestrians crossing the U.S.-Mexico border 24 hours a day. Commercial trucks are inspected between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. MST, Mondays and Fridays, and between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. MST, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Approximately 70 trucks, 4,100 POVs, six buses, and 3,600 pedestrians are processed through this port daily.
Proposed Expansion Project
Currently, GSA has four buildings located at Douglas, consisting of a main building, a garage, a commercial building and dock, and a headhouse. The 4.8-acre federal compound, built in 1933 and expanded in 1993, is inadequate to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s mission requirements.
GSA proposes to expand and reconfigure the Douglas LPOE. The project involves the creation of a new commercial inspection compound on approximately 28 acres, to be acquired west of the existing LPOE, across Pan American Avenue.
The new land port will have 20 bays for inspection of northbound commercial trucks and two for southbound trucks. The old compound will be expanded and reconfigured to provide new private vehicle and bus inspection facilities, with eight primary POV inspection lanes and one bus lane. The historic port building will be modernized and the pedestrian facility will be expanded from two inspection stations to three.
GSA expects to request FY13 funding for site acquisition and design, and FY15 funding for construction. Those interested in updates should return to this webpage regularly.
