2009 Citizens Report Reflects GSA's Commitment to Responsible Stewardship of Taxpayers' Dollars

Highlights Obligation to Stimulating the Economy, Greening the Government and Fostering Public Engagement through an Open Government

WASHINGTON – Highlighting a historic year of transition, reinvestment, and achievement, the U.S. General Services Administration today released A Report to Citizens, which recaps the agency’s fiscal year 2009 financial performance results and its benefits to the public.

In 2009, GSA continued to leverage its buying power to acquire best value for federal customers and the taxpayers. In its role as one of the largest public real estate organizations in the nation, GSA provided 354 million square feet of office space to more than a million federal employees in 2,100 American communities. 

“A Report to Citizens provides an overview of how GSA is meeting federal agencies’ needs as well as providing valuable resources to citizens,” said GSA’s Chief Financial Officer Kathleen Turco. “It also reiterates our commitment to be a responsible steward of taxpayers’ dollars.”

The report outlines the agency’s efforts to lead by example in sustainability through its efforts to green federal buildings and provide federal employees with a healthy work environment, and to increase the use of sustainable products throughout the federal government. It also identifies achievements in:

  • Open Government; 
  • Public engagement;
  • Linking the public to vital resources
