The Great Lakes Region Federal Acquisition Service has created an on-line flip book for GSA’s Global Supply Catalog, realizing a 54 percent reduction in printed quantity and saving nearly $300,000. Working with customer feedback and distribution/order history, GSA will continue to expand electronic catalog functionalities and find ways to implement e-commerce strategies that allow customers to order directly from on-line catalogs.
CHICAGO – GSA donated 30 gently-used laptops to Indian Valley Vocational Center (IVVC), Sandwich, Ill., in July, marking the second donation to the IVVC this year through GSA's Computers for Learning program, totaling 62 laptops to date. “GSA’s Computers for Learning program gives schools like IVVC access to the technology they need to ensure students can compete for today’s jobs, while providing an environmentally responsible way for federal agencies to give new life to computers and equipment we are no longer using,” said GSA Great Lakes Regional Administrator Ann P. Kalayil. “By connecting classrooms to technology, we can help students prepare and compete for jobs of the future.” Since October 2012, GSA's Great Lakes Region has facilitated the re-purposing of nearly $23 million in computer equipment to eligible schools and nonprofits. Interested organizations are encouraged to find more information about GSA’s Computers for Learning program at www.computersforlearning.gov.
CLEVELAND – Elizabeth Themelis, GSA Child Care Director, visited the Fedkids Child Care Center at the Celebrezze Federal Building, Cleveland, Ohio, June 24, to presented a Certificate of Recognition to the center's director, Renada Fitch, recognizing the center's recent accreditation by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The center received 100% on eight of the 10 NAEYC Standards. With more than 400 criteria, accreditation is an intense process that requires a high level of commitment and hard work from the childcare provider and staff, along with support from their GSA partners. With this accomplishment, all 10 child care centers in the Great Lakes Region are now NAEYC Accredited. The NAEYC Accreditation is an important mark of quality that helps parents find the best possible childhood education program for their young children and is one of GSA's key performance goal measurements.
