Save Time and Money with GSA's FSSI Print Management
In our government’s current environment of shrinking budgets, GSA’s Federal Strategic Sourcing Initiative (FSSI) for Print Management Program is here to help your agency save time and money. This FSSI enables your agency to purchase new print equipment at a discounted rate, assess inventory to understand spending and inefficiency, and manage entire imaging fleets under a single contract. Plus, many of the program’s Blanket Purchase Agreements (BPAs) allow you to support small business and socioeconomic goals, all while reducing your environmental footprint through sustainable device features and better agency print practices.
Imaging fleet assessment services
Fleet assessment services help you to gain an understanding of current imaging fleet performance through measurement and analysis of current output. This is the first step agencies should take to either discover areas of improvement or gain control of a previously under managed print environment. An assessment can help lower future spending by right-sizing and optimizing imaging fleets, and improve performance and efficiency by reducing the amount of commodities (paper, toner, etc.) needed in the future. Examples under fleet assessment services include vendor-neutral inventory measurement, printer/multi-function device inventory discovery, vendor-neutral new purchase recommendations, usage and data collection, creation of energy and cost baselines, and organizational analyses. Besides documenting costs, vendors are also can assist agencies with recommendation plans to reduce costs based on business needs, and establish optimization goals to improve workflow, security, and energy efficiency.
Purchasing new printers and related functional services
Use Print Management for streamlining your procurement of new imaging equipment to include service labor and parts, consumable supplies, and fleet management systems for reporting, all under one contract. The purpose of combining all lifecycle cost drivers into one award package is to reduce the cost of imaging output over time, and better capture total cost of ownership through the consolidation of products and services. The BPAs offer a range of multifunction and single-function network printers, both color and monochromatic. They include machines that cover small workgroup solutions to high-speed, light production with extensive finishing capabilities; and are available from leading industry brands such as Canon, HP, Konica Minolta, Lexmark, Ricoh, Sharp, Xerox and Toshiba. The optimized purchasing structure is based on equipment output volume, which provides a framework for selecting the appropriate equipment to avoid buying equipment over capacity. Acquisition options include purchase, lease-to-own, and operating leases for terms up to five years. Work towards meeting small business goals by utilizing our small business vendors, and reduce your footprint with sustainable options such as re-manufactured toner, polyresin-based toner, and many Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT) registered devices.
Consolidated print management services
The second phase of the FSSI Print Management program will be available in early FY2014. These BPAs will enable federal agencies to move a step further with achieving a comprehensive print management approach. Under this phase, vendors will directly manage existing government devices and/or coordinate with existing service providers for device leases currently in place. Agencies also will be able to select a single vendor to manage their fleet of multiple-vendor devices. These vendors will be required to coordinate maintenance, supplies replenishment, cost management, and data collection.
PrintWise behavior change program
GSA has established a GSA PrintWise program as an additional component to achieve savings by offsetting a large portion of costs for toner, utilities, and maintenance, which are largely driven by user behavior. PrintWise focuses on compelling federal agencies to change their organization’s print policy and equipment software settings, and influencing individual employee behavior. The program supports the U.S. Office of Governmentwide Policy Bulletin FMR B-37, Federal Print Management Practices, and the U.S. Office of Management and Budget Scorecard on Sustainability and Energy measurements. PrintWise is driven by seven cost savings recommendations:
1. Set your default to duplex (double-sided) printing
2. Set your default to black-and-white (rather than color) printing
3. Set your default to draft quality (rather than high quality) printing
4. Improve your use of printer sleep mode
5. Set the font in Microsoft applications to default to one of the approved toner-efficient fonts
(Times New Roman, Garamond, Century Gothic)
6. Encourage the removal of personal printers
7. Freeze purchases of personal printers
