These are questions frequently asked of the GSA Fleet Driving Course support team. 

  1. Is driver training mandatory in order to drive a GSA Fleet vehicle?

  2. Is the National Safety Council (NSC) Defensive Driving Course free to all Federal Employees?

  3. How do I obtain my GSA Fleet Customer Number to access the course??

  1. Is driver training mandatory in order to drive a GSA Fleet vehicle?

    GSA does not mandate driver training for drivers of GSA Fleet vehicles, however, some Federal agencies set such mandates for its employees; please refer to your agency’s training policy.

  2. Is the National Safety Council (NSC) Defensive Driving Course free to all Federal Employees?

    All Federal employees who drive GSA Fleet vehicles may take the DDC free of charge. The course is offered at a Federal discount to drivers of agency-owned vehicles, via GSA Schedule 874.

  3. How do I obtain my GSA Fleet Customer Number to access the course?

    There are two ways to obtain your Fleet Customer Number: 1.) Ask your Fleet Service Representative (FSR) 2.) Send the full license tag number for a GSA Fleet vehicle at your agency location to howsmydriving@gsa.gov and a GSA Fleet representative will return your customer number to you.

  4. Why isn’t the course being displayed after entering my customer number and email address?

    Make sure your pop-up blocker is turned off before you login.

  5. How long does the course take to complete? Do I need to complete the training in one sitting?

    The NSC Defensive Driving Course typically takes 4 hours to complete. The course does not need to be completed all at once; it can be saved and continued at a later time or date.

  6. How many drivers can use the same Fleet Customer Number to log into the course?

    All Federal employees working for the same agency, at the same agency location, would use the same GSA Fleet Customer Number in order to create an account.

  7. I completed the course previously and am now taking it for a second time; how do I log back in?

    You will need to create a new account and log in as a new student..
