Carbon Pollution-Free Electricity
In addition to the Federal Government’s renewable energy goal in the 2005 Energy Policy Act, we are also committed to working with the Department of Defense and other partner agencies to source 100 percent carbon pollution-free electricity (CFE) in all government buildings by 2030, per Executive Order (EO) 14057.
CFE is electrical energy produced from resources that generate no carbon emissions. In order to reach our goals, it must be produced in the same Emissions and Generation Resource Integrated Database (eGRID) where the facility is located. It includes marine energy, solar, wind, hydrokinetic (including tidal, wave, current, and thermal), geothermal, hydroelectric, nuclear, renewably sourced hydrogen, and electrical energy generation from fossil resources to the extent there is active capture and storage of carbon dioxide emissions that meets the Environmental Protection Agency’s requirements. View the Defense Logistics Agency’s page for more information about CFE.
We are committed to helping you reach your CFE goals by:
- Leveraging our competitive retail electric contracts and the Federal Government’s purchasing power to purchase CFE.
- Establishing Green Tariffs with utility companies so that agencies can issue delivery orders off of the GSA Areawide Public Utility Contracts.
What agencies can do
