James Weller, Public Buildings Service, Regional Commissioner
James S. Weller (Jim) is the PBS Regional Commissioner for Greater Southwest Region, where he has been serving since August 18, 2003. Mr. Weller is responsible for government-owned and leased buildings throughout Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas. In addition, Mr. Weller served in a dual-hatted role as the Regional Commissioner for PBS Region 4 from May 2009 to October 2011.
Prior to joining GSA, Mr. Weller was the Associate Director for Major Projects at Texas Christian University. While at TCU he managed the new construction and major renovation program for the University. Prior to working at TCU, Jim spent 25 years on active duty as an Army engineer officer. Retiring as a colonel, his last two assignments were as the Commander of the Engineer Research Development Center in Vicksburg, MS and as the Commander of the Fort Worth District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He is a graduate of the Military Academy at West Point, NY and he holds masters degrees from Georgia Institute of Technology in Civil Engineering, from the University of Southern California in Systems Management, and from the U.S. Naval War College in National Security and Strategy. During his army career he held a variety of assignments with the Army Corps of Engineers from project engineer to district engineer in two locations. He held combat engineer positions from platoon leader to battalion executive officer in several engineer battalions. He had overseas assignments in South Korea, Okinawa, Japan, and Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm and Desert Shield. Additionally, he taught civil engineering at the U.S. Air Force Academy for three years.
His awards and recognitions include the Bronze Star, three Legion of Merits, a Silver deFleury from the Army Engineer Association and selection as a Fellow in the Society of American Military Engineers.
