GSA FY 2006 Audit Receives Clean Opinion

Washington, DC - Today, the U. S. General Services Administration (GSA) announced Price Waterhouse Coopers (PWC), the agency’s independent auditors, reported an unqualified, or “clean,” audit opinion of GSA’s FY 2006 financial statements. The audit opinion affirms that GSA’s internal controls are sufficient over financial reporting and to maintain its customers' budget authority.
“One of the top priorities of my tenure at GSA is to enforce sound financial management practices through transparency, integrity, and accountability. GSA’s FY 2006 unqualified audit opinion is a remarkable achievement,” said GSA Administrator Lurita Doan. “It’s the result of an unparalleled level of effort and demonstrates our commitment to ensuring appropriate financial management of customer and taxpayer monies, and our full support of the President’s Management Agenda.”
“GSA earned this audit opinion through planning and good old-fashioned hard work. GSA shares this accomplishment with our financial community, and extends our gratitude to them for their role in this Herculean effort,” said GSA Chief Financial Officer Kathleen Turco.
GSA filed their FY 2006 Performance and Accountability Report, which includes the financial reports and audit findings, on Nov. 10, 2006 and five days early, with the Office of Management and Budget. PWC’s unqualified opinion signifies that GSA is not only ready to do business in FY 2006 but also successfully addressed past financial concerns.

GSA manages more than one-fourth of the government’s total procurement dollars and influences the management of $500 billion in federal assets, including 8,300 government-owned or leased buildings and 170,000 vehicles.
