The Edmund S. Muskie Federal Building was built in 1966 and is a seven-story brick and masonry structure with a full basement. It was named the Edmund S. Muskie Federal Building in 1984 after Edmund Sixtus Muskie, who served as governor of Maine from 1955-1959, senator from 1959-1980, and United States Secretary of State from 1980-1981.
