GSA and FBI Open New Boston Field Office
BOSTON-- On March 7, 2017, the Boston Field Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the opening of the division’s new Boston Field Office in Chelsea, Massachusetts. The new, state-of-the-art law enforcement facility features enhanced security, upgraded technology and ample workspace to accommodate FBI personnel and its law enforcement partners.
FBI Special Agent in Charge Harold H. Shaw welcomed FBI Director James B. Comey, GSA Public Buildings Service Commissioner Norman Dong, Massachusetts Governor Charles D. Baker and more than 300 attendees representing law enforcement, elected officials, and community partners to the new field office. The new 220,000 square foot facility is situated on 5.1 acres of land - eight stories tall - and is being leased from Emerald Corporate Center, LLC for the FBI by GSA for a period of 20 years.
“We are very proud of our new field office. It provides an environment that more accurately reflects the professionalism of our workforce, and provides us with the necessary additional space that will enhance collaboration within our organization and with our law enforcement
partners,” said Special Agent in Charge Harold H. Shaw. “The facility is only outdone by the exceptional work being conducted within its walls and what we collectively do to protect and serve.”
In addition to addresses by Director Comey and Special Agent in Charge Shaw, the ceremony featured the Massachusetts State Police Honor Guard; Massachusetts State Trooper Kathryn J. Downey, a vocalist who sang the national anthem; Cardinal Sean P. O’Malley, Archdiocese of Boston, who delivered the invocation and benediction; GSA Commissioner Dong; and the lessor Anthony C. Simboli.
"GSA and FBI were dedicated to the effective delivery of this project and through strong inter-agency partnerships, the project is a great success,” said Norman Dong, GSA Public Buildings Service commissioner. "This building was designed with state-of-the-art secure protection features and energy efficient specs that will lead the way for future FBI buildings."
“I am pleased to welcome the FBI as officials formally open their new headquarters in Chelsea,” said Congressman Mike Capuano. “The wait has been long, but the building – a fully modern, 21st century workspace will provide economic benefits and will serve the FBI for many years.”
“This has been a long journey which has turned out with great results,” said Anthony C. Simboli, Chairman of ACS Development Corporation, on behalf of Lessor- Emerald Corporate Center LLC. “We are extremely proud to have developed this important regional building. It was a very collaborative process with the government team which made the design and construction a success. We are pleased to have the project completed and the government settled into its new home. The building is a tremendous asset for the city of Chelsea and for the Agency.”
This marks the first time the FBI Boston Division will be located in a stand-alone building. Currently, the Boston Field Office has ten resident agencies serving the region, in addition to its central headquarters.
