Auction for the Ronald Reagan Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse to close Dec. 1
PHILADELPHIA — The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) announced that the sale of the Ronald Reagan Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse at 228 Walnut Street, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania is scheduled to end on December 1, 2021 at 2:00 pm ET. The 11-story, approximately 251,000 GSF building is listed for sale on RealEstateSales.gov at a starting bid of $3,000,000.
About the property: Constructed in 1966, the building is in a prime location across from Strawberry Square, a one-million square foot retail and office complex, and the grounds of the Pennsylvania State Capitol Complex. The building is situated on a 0.695-acre parcel and has 55 parking spaces in the basement level. It is nearly 50 feet from two public parking garages.
The property’s proximity to the Capitol and local economic incentives offer a prime redevelopment opportunity. The property is eligible for a 10-year tax abatement under Local Economic Revitalization Tax Act Program (L.E.R.T.A.) on any improvements and is located in a PA Federal Opportunity Zone. Existing tenants will continue to occupy the building for a period of time per the terms of the agreement.

The building sale is a Federal Assets Sale and Transfer Act (Public Law 114-287) (FASTA) property. Passed by Congress in December 2016, FASTA requires the Office of Management and Budget and GSA to identify opportunities for the federal government to reduce its inventory of real property through accelerated sales of approved properties, more efficiently utilize existing properties and reduce the cost for maintaining these properties.
