PHILADELPHIA — The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) is pleased to announce the conveyance of the former Summersville Federal Building and Post Office to Nicholas County, West Virginia. The property is located at the intersection of Water Street and Turnpike Road in Summersville.

The two-story building consists of 10,843 gross square feet situated on a 1.2-acre site. The building was formerly used by the US Postal Service, US Department of Agriculture, and the US Army Corp of Engineers. The property will be conveyed to the county for law enforcement and emergency management use.

“This is a great opportunity for the community to use this property to benefit the public,” stated Joanna Rosato, Acting Regional Administrator for GSA’s Mid-Atlantic Region. “This conveyance ensures the building continues to serve Nicholas County residents, and GSA is proud to partner with them to make this happen.”

“The Nicholas County Commission is ecstatic to have the opportunity to continue this facility’s use for the public’s benefit,” said Commission President Garrett Cole. “The Commission looks forward to using this facility to serve all of Nicholas County and surrounding areas in both Law Enforcement and Homeland Security offices. The Commission and the citizens of Nicholas County, West Virginia, are grateful for the hard work and dedication of the General Services Administration…the Department of Justice, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and the United States Department of the Interior - National Park Service in making this project a success. We thank the many agencies and individuals that we have had the pleasure to work with throughout this process and for their consideration of the project we now have the opportunity to begin for our citizens.”

GSA serves as an economic catalyst for cities and communities across the country. As part of GSA’s ongoing efforts to make more efficient use of our real estate assets, GSA is actively working with federal agencies to identify and repurpose unneeded properties. The conveyance of underutilized properties, such as the building in Summersville, out of the federal inventory helps facilitate local reuse which promotes economic growth and saves taxpayer dollars.
