Anniston Courthouse earns SITES silver certification
The new U.S. Courthouse in Anniston, Alabama has earned SITES Silver certification. The 63,000-gross-square-foot federal courthouse, which earned LEED Gold certification last year, was completed in 2022.
The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System is a program developed by the U.S. Green Building Council that provides third-party rating and certification of green buildings.
The Sustainable Sites Initiative (SITES) Program is focused on green landscapes, with or without structures. It seeks not only to preserve landscape environments, but to regenerate and restore degraded ecosystems through performative landscapes.
SITES projects are designed to better withstand and recover from floods, droughts, and other catastrophic events. They also help reduce water and energy demand, improve air quality, and promote human health and wellbeing.
The Anniston U.S. Courthouse, which sits on approximately four urban acres, features native plants and grasses with low maintenance and water usage.
Ensuring that federal buildings achieve LEED and SITES certification highlight GSA’s commitment to building sustainable public buildings in communities across the country.
