Southeast Sunbelt Region shines at project management awards
GSA’s Southeast Sunbelt Region was well-represented at the GSA Project Management Awards on June 20. The Project Management Awards recognize Public Building Service project managers and teams who exceed expectations and strive for excellence in their work. This year, awards were given in nine categories.
“What an impressive showing for the region. Our team received three top awards and one honorable mention,” said Jeff Smith, Regional Commissioner. “This recognition is a testament to the hard work and collaboration of so many Region 4 employees. Congratulations to everyone who was recognized for their outstanding work!
Project Management Award for Large Federal Construction Projects: The Alton Lennon Federal Building and US Courthouse Emergency Hurricane Repairs project in Wilmington, NC. This was a cross regional effort between Region 3 and Region 4 to make repairs to the facility following extensive damage from Hurricane Florence in 2018.
Project Management Award for Real Property Disposition Service Case Award: Spartanburg Parking Lot Exchange for Services in Spartanburg, SC. The first of its kind in Region 4, the Spartanburg Exchange Project was a collaborative intragovernmental real estate transaction that involved active planning, communication and engagement from a myriad of PBS business lines.
Project Management Award for Below-Prospectus Projects: Matthew Perry US Courthouse - AV Rooms Supplemental Cooling in Columbia South Carolina. This project was initiated in 2018 but encountered multiple delays due to design issues, funding differences and the COVID pandemic. In December 2022, a new GSA Project Team was put in place and they were able to get the project back on track.
The Lease Construction and Prospectus Honorable Mention Award: James Haley Medical Center VA Mental Hospital in Tampa, Florida. This 137,000 square-foot full service mental health clinic, part of a joint GSA/VA Community Based Outpatient pilot program, provides in- and out-patient care for veterans.
