Where do you live? 
Knoxville, Iowa

Where is your hometown?
Phoenix, Arizona

What was your career journey, to where you are now?
Having an 1102 focus (contracting) to obtain experience and progression while not getting complacent, yet keeping 1102 standards and best practices current and active. Now, using those experiences to help others understand the rules and regulations of federal contracting.

What other federal government or military experience have you had and for how long?
U.S. Department of Agriculture for four years, Department of Interior for one year, Department of Energy for two years and Department of Navy for three years as an 1102. I also have 10 additional years in civilian contracting as an 1101 consultant to project and procurement managers.

What is your alma mater, degree or special training?
MBA from University of Phoenix’s Phoenix, Arizona, ground campus.

What is your biggest professional or personal accomplishment?
Professionally, the re-organization of in-house procedures for all contracting officer representative contract process at Navy Personnel Command via a two-year green-to-black belt project. Personally, writing a contract to buy a more than 100-year-old, 20-acre farm without real estate agents or a legal team — and, renovating the original farm house, barn, and pastures.

How do you recharge your batteries outside of work?
My hobby farm. Raising mini herefords and chickens and maintaining an orchard, hayfield and timber.

Tell us a little about yourself. Children? Pets? Married? Hobbies?
Two wonderful elementary-aged children, and I am divorced. Hobbies include raising my children on our organic-practices farm and all activities that go with that: rockets, metal detecting, fossils, rock hounding, graphing fruit trees, timber management, self-sustaining practices, etc.

What three words best describe your personality?
Integrity, responsible, and reliable.

What is one of the items on your bucket list?
A vacation back to Scotland with my children. We absolutely loved it there.

What characteristic or value do you most admire in others?
Honesty.

What is your unique talent, skill or gift?
Maintaining a life balance.

Is there anything else you would like to share about yourself?
Self-taught arborist.
