GSA and U.S. Courts celebrate 100th anniversary of the federal courthouse in Lawton, Oklahoma
LAWTON, Okla. — Today, U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) and the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma held a celebration for the 100th anniversary of the Lawton Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse. The building’s construction was completed in February 1917 and tenants began moving in soon after in March 1917.
“Historic courthouses in GSA’s inventory speak not only to the history of GSA and the U.S. Courts, but America’s history as well,” said GSA’s Acting Regional Commissioner James Ferracci.
GSA completed a major renovation project in 2005 that included the historic restoration of the lobby, tile floors and plaster ceilings as well as a new fire sprinkler system, new electrical and HVAC systems and a new roof. In 2017, GSA added new HVAC building controls for energy efficiency. Today, not only is the courthouse a historic beauty, it also saves the American Taxpayer money through energy cost savings resulting from the renovation projects.
