GSA Building Managers Respond to Historic Snowstorms in Texas

Historic snowstorms hit Texas hard in February. Whether you were without power and/or water, having people stay with you if you were still operational, helping people to warming centers, or worried about your friends and loved ones, we were all affected.
In addition to the weight of the above, GSA’s Building Managers were on call 24-7 responding to bursting pipes and flooding throughout Texas’ federal and leased inventory of over 800 properties. In fact, they responded to well over 100 reports of building closures or damage related to the extreme weather, power and water outages across the region.
“It was like responding to major hurricanes across the whole state,” said one of the Building Managers responding to calls.
Even though the work often goes unnoticed, Building Managers are the backbone of keeping our properties up and running for the federal agencies GSA houses. So if you visit the Social Security Administration, Veteran’s Administration, a federal building or courthouse, know that GSA is behind the efforts to keep them operational to ensure they fulfill their missions to serve the American People.
If you were affected by the storms, you can register for FEMA Assistance by visiting http://disasterassistance.gov or calling 800-621-3362 (TTY: 800-462-7585). The toll-free telephone lines operate from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. CDT, seven days a week.
