New APHIS Facility in Pembina, ND

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Construction has been completed on new 7,000 square-foot office and livestock inspection facility for the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) at the Pembina Land Port of Entry (LPOE). We are currently planning a date to conduct a ribbon cutting when the weather supports this type of event.

TRAFFIC ADVISORY

Expected changes in traffic patterns will be posted for public information as necessary in coordination with CBP.

COMMUNITY IMPACT

• Pembina LPOE is located approximately 1 mile south of the US/Canada border and is the primary processing point for travelers and cargo vehicles with commodities and livestock being transported to the United States.
• Processes over one million vehicles annually, it is the second busiest border crossing point along the US/Canada border west of the Great Lakes.
• This new facility will expedite the on-load inspection process and new structure will make it safer for agents to move on the property without impeding traffic.
• Project design minimizes impacts to vegetation and water resources.

MODERNIZATION AND EXPANSION

• The new facility will replaced APHIS’s mobile office trailer, and relocated the livestock inspection services from Canada to the Pembina LPOE. The new facility reduces traffic congestion in the commercial vehicle lanes and inspection areas, provides increased safety for APHIS personnel and the public, and enhances the infrastructure of the port.

• Project was appropriated $5.749M in FY2017

DESIGN

• The design is a warehouse that can accommodate multiple truckloads of animals and plants for thorough inspection.
