GSA’s Historic Preservation Program provides technical and strategic expertise to promote the viability, reuse, and integrity of historic buildings GSA owns, leases, and has the opportunity to acquire. Through consultative support, GSA ensures that regional projects and actions comply with the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, and are consistent with GSA policy and national stewardship strategy.
GSA endeavors to preserve these national treasures for future generations through building investments, reuse strategies, and employing cutting-edge design efforts. This dynamic environment requires GSA to be on the forefront of developing innovative design solutions and building investment strategies that are economical and extend the useful life of historic structures. The Historic Preservation Program also minimizes the negative effects of changes needed to keep buildings safe, functional, and efficient. GSA’s office is most effective when involved in all stages of preservation or renovation projects.
