Region 8 Hosts 19th Annual Diversity Training

In honor of 2020 Black History Month, Region 8’s Black Employee and Hispanic Employee Programs hosted its 19th Annual Diversity Training Program on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at the Denver Federal Center. 

The one-hour event was emceed by Denver’s Jammin’ 101.5 radio host, KJ Bland, who kept the event upbeat and shared her reflections about the 2020 Black History Month Theme “African Americans and The Vote” throughout the event. National Recording Artist, Rajdulari performed the national anthem as well as two duets with saxophonist and Colorado Springs radio host Tony Exum Jr, including Rise Up by Andra Day.

Tori Mason, Anchor Reporter for Denver’s CBS4 News gave a humorous and inspiring keynote address. Tori shared many stories about herself, including her hope to one day work in the media capital of the world, New York City. She shared that her desire to be on national news is so that her parents can watch her on television rather than having to live stream her broadcasts. Tori added “my parents know more about what’s going on in Denver, than people who live in Denver.” Tori also shared a story about a recent social post that upset her. The post asked “should journalists be allowed to vote.” To this, she said “I’ve been a journalist for only a few years, I’ve been a writer for as long as I can remember, and I’ve been a black woman since I was born. I can’t change that. But, I have the right to vote.”
