GSA Announces Overnight Lane Closures on Camino de la Plaza

Work at San Ysidro Port of Entry to install new traffic light fixtures, update signage and restripe roadway

SAN YSIDRO, Calif. – The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) announced a series of planned overnight lane closures near the intersection of Camino de la Plaza and Camiones Way at the San Ysidro Land Port of Entry (LPOE) starting July 6, 2020. The work will take place over four consecutive nights in order to install new traffic light fixtures, roadway signage and road restriping.

The first two night closures will occur Monday, July 6 and Tuesday, July 7. The nightly closures will begin at 9:00 p.m. and last until 5:00 a.m. The Interstate 5 (I-5) and 805 (I-805) Camino de la Plaza offramps will be closed. The I-5 south onramp at Camino de la Plaza will also be closed. Access to Camino de la Plaza from the southbound I-5 and I-805 freeways will be via detours from Via de San Ysidro and East San Ysidro Boulevard, respectively. The location of the last U.S. exit will be temporarily relocated to the rightmost vehicle lane on the I-5 south freeway just before the vehicle inspection booths during this period.

The final two night closures will occur Wednesday, July 8 and Thursday, July 9, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.  During this period the traveling public can expect active lane closures and flashing red lights indicating a four-way stop at the intersection of Camino de la Plaza and Camiones Way. The southbound I-5 and I-805 Camino de la Plaza offramps will remain open as well as the I-5 south onramp at Camino de la Plaza.

Travelers are advised to plan ahead for potential delays, monitor media and traffic reports, and adhere to speed limits and posted signage which announces changes to traffic patterns on affected roadways and freeways - including the last USA exit.
