GSA awards construction contract for 26 Federal Plaza backfill and renovation in New York City
New York — The U.S. General Services Administration has awarded a contract to Volmar Construction Inc., based in Brooklyn, New York, for the reconfiguration and alteration of space at the Jacob K. Javits Federal Building in Manhattan.
This work will consolidate functions and meet the long-term needs of the FBI, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
“The renovated space at 26 Federal Plaza will enhance the work of our federal agency tenants and benefit the local economy,” said GSA Regional Administrator John A. Sarcone III. “Through partnerships with the FBI, HHS, and the Army Corps, GSA was able to advance this important project.”
Project details:
- The project award includes the base services in the amount of $27,099,911; and optional work for bathroom renovations and life-safety upgrades bringing the total contract award to $32,300,072.
- Construction on the base project scope is expected to begin in spring 2018 and the phased project is expected to be completed in winter 2020.
- The project includes the full renovation and LEED Gold upgrade of 265,000 rentable square feet throughout floors 16 to 21. Repairs and alterations include upgrades to multiple building systems, removal of hazardous materials and improved fire protection systems.
- Phase 1 includes the build-out of space for the Army Corps. It is expected to begin construction in spring 2018.
- Phase 2 includes the build-out of space for the FBI and HHS, scheduled to be awarded in spring 2018 and subject to receipt of reimbursable work authorization funding.
