GSA’s Presidential Innovation Fellows program is now accepting applications

Washington, D.C. — The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), in collaboration with other federal agencies, is recruiting applicants for the Fall 2018 Presidential Innovation Fellows (PIF) program. This competitive program pairs talented technologists, designers, entrepreneurs, data-scientists, product managers and innovators with civil-servants within the highest levels of federal government to tackle some of our nation’s toughest technology challenges. The deadline for applications is June 24, 2018.

The fellowship provides the opportunity to shape, define and lead initiatives of significant scale and impact. Fellows work directly with senior leadership at federal agencies during their 12-month tenure to address complex issues and deliver better products and services to citizens. Projects can include building agency innovation capabilities, tackling hard mission problems, shaping smarter policy, and developing and implementing technology.

Potential project opportunities for the Fall 2018 PIF class include:

  • Working to implement the President’s Management Agenda of modernizing government through initiating IT Centers of Excellence at various federal agencies;
  • Helping the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs better support veterans transitioning from military to civilian life, adopt medical innovations to improve health outcomes, and reduce the processing time for benefits claims;
  • Developing customer experience mechanisms in data, tools, and technology to enable the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to deliver the best experience to veterans, families, caregivers, and survivors;
  • Helping the Defense Innovation Unit Experimental bridge the gap between the Department of Defense and the tech community to access innovative and emerging technologies and solve critical national security challenges;
  • Working with the National Institutes of Health to better engage research participants and researchers for the All of Us Research Program;
  • Supporting the U.S. Department of Agriculture as it re-envisions how it engages with its customers: America’s farmers, ranchers, conservationists, and private foresters;
  • Aiding the U.S. Department of State in leveraging its data as a strategic asset to better gather insights on mission needs, results, and risks;
  • Helping the U.S. Department of State better utilize data in its communications with foreign citizens to further our foreign policy objectives, bolster our nation’s reputation and trust and help State employees better connect with people around the world;
  • Assisting the U.S. Broadcasting Board of Governors with employing innovative data-driven techniques in reaching new global audiences;
  • Assisting the National Institute of Standards and Technology as they connect federal technology transfer with private funding for commercialization; and
  • Supporting the Millennium Challenge Corporation to ensure that their partner countries have the data, technology and innovations skills needed to maximize the impact from U.S. investments and to leverage the digital data revolution to drive their own development priorities.
