U.S. Land Port of Entry at Columbus, NM

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Since its construction in 1989, screening of visitors at the Columbus Land Port of Entry (LPOE) has increased significantly. It continues to experience an increase in commercial traffic with anticipated substantial growth over the next 15 years. Efforts have been underway by the Government of Mexico to relocate their port facilities south of the border and further east. Construction of a bypass road to access these new crossings was completed in 2011.

• The building area including canopies is 74,000 gross square feet (GSF) along with 106 outside parking spaces.
• This POE expansion project will accommodate the increased commercial traffic circulation resulting from the bypass.
• Columbus has also experienced significant flooding during high volume rainfall events in the past and work is necessary to prevent future flood issues from deteriorating the structures.
• The project will expand the facilities to safely and efficiently accommodate steady increases in car, truck and pedestrian traffic as well as incorporate extensive site improvements.
