Wayne N. Aspinall Federal Building and US Courthouse
400 Rood Avenue
Grand Junction, Colorado 81501
Welcome to the Wayne N. Aspinall Federal Building and US Courthouse. In 2010, the Federal Building & US Courthouse received $15M in America Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds to modernize the entire building. The GSA’s goal for the modernization of the building is to not only preserve this anchor in the Grand Junction community, but also to convert it into one of the most energy efficient and sustainable historic buildings in the country.
This will be accomplished by using advanced systems such as:
- variable refrigerant flow (VRF) for the HVAC
- a geo-exchange system which will reject and extract heat to and from the building using the constant temperature of the earth
- advanced metering and building controls
- high-efficient lighting systems
- a thermally enhanced building envelope.
Photovoltaic panels are on the roof of an elevated canopy above the building’s north edge, providing enough energy to power the building’s peak demand targeting creating the first site net-zero building listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Net-zero means that the building will produce as much energy on-site as it consumes over the course of one year.
Federal Architecture embodies all that we value as a nation. The success of the modernization of the Wayne N. Aspinall Federal Building & US Courthouse represents our responsibility to our environment and our commitment to excellence.
