Turning Dirt On The Most Efficient Aerospace System In The World

The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) broke ground on a new sustainable, secure, and cost-effective facility for the FAA on Tuesday, June 7, at the Des Moines Creek Business Park in Seattle.
Being able to deliver on providing the safest and most efficient aerospace system in the world relies heavily on having access to the latest technology. While technology is a key factor for the FAA to accomplish its mission, GSA helped consolidate four leases into one that resulted in reducing their real estate footprint by 237,000 square feet based on the original prospectus.
Furthermore, the project adds modern equipment and infrastructure that enables workers to accomplish their mission.
That’s where GSA comes into the picture as the premier provider of real estate to federal agencies. We provide workspace and related services for over 100 federal agencies serving more than one million workers through GSA’s Public Buildings Service. It is our mission to deliver the best value in real estate, acquisition, and technology services to government and the American people.
This project was a great economic catalyst, providing approximately 1,600 jobs throughout the project and revitalizing unused land. GSA is working on a subcontracting plan that will benefit small businesses. The Des Moines Creek Business Park is an 87-acre property that will include up to two-million square feet of flexible-use, manufacturing, office, distribution and industrial business park buildings.
The building is targeted for achieving Gold Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) 2009 Core and Shell and Commercial Interiors, meaning that this certified building will be resource efficient. It will use less water and energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. As an added bonus, it will save taxpayer dollars.
GSA is proud to be able to support federal agencies like the FAA to better meet their mission while collaborating with the community and project partners to stimulate economic growth across the country.
