Since 2014 federal agencies are required to buy security containers using National Stock Numbers in GSA Global Supply via requisition. All items are FOB origin, freight prepaid. This means you will need to pay additional shipping charges for delivery of these items.
Do not order containers directly from vendors.
Non-government entities under contract with the federal government — called contractors — should use our purchasing guide [PDF - 60 KB] for your procedures.
Quotes
You can get a quote by entering the NSN in the search bar field of GSA Advantage or GSA Global Supply. You will get the same prices and terms on both sites. If you can’t use these sites, you can use DD Form 1348-6 [PDF - 560 KB] or SF 344 [PDF - 394 KB] requisitions and send the completed form to rpc@gsa.gov and securitycontainers@gsa.gov. Use our ordering guide [PDF - 121 KB] for more help with this method.
You do not need to get three quotes when you use GSA Global Supply, regardless of payment method, even if the buy is over the micro-purchase threshold.
Shipping costs and payment
Shipping costs
For dock-to-dock shipping, prices range from $400-800. This is when a truck pulls up to a dock and rolls the container off the truck onto a dock.
For lift-gate shipping, prices range from $500-850. This is when you do not have a dock and a lift gate will lower the container from the truck onto the ground.
For inside delivery, prices range from $850-1500. This is when the container is delivered indoors with no elevator. Prices vary depending on location, container size, and number of stairs.
If you are overseas, the vendor will ship to a CONUS Defense Logistics Agency consolidated containerization point, and DLA is responsible for getting it the rest of the way to you.
No point of contact
Please include name, daytime phone number, and email address in all orders or ensure your address book section of your GSA Global Supply profile is correct. These containers are sometimes turned away at military installations, because there is no POC info with the order. You can also include special delivery instructions.
Payment
If you order through GSA Global Supply, you can use your GPC. You can request a one-time purchase increase if it’s over your limit, because these are national security items and available only through GSA Global Supply.
If you use GSA Global Supply, you can also have direct billing through your AAC or DoDAAC.
Accessories
You can get accessories directly from the original equipment manufacturer. Make sure you use the same manufacturer for accessories, because they are not interchangeable with another OEM.
After you place your order, send an email to securitycontainers@gsa.gov to tell us you have ordered accessories from the vendor/OEM, and we will allocate your order to the same OEM.
Special requests
Email securitycontainers@gsa.gov with any special requests like needing:
- A specific manufacturer
- Expedited delivery
- Lift-gate or inside delivery
Include your requisition number, the confirmation email from GSA Global Supply or GSA Advantage, and what special request you need.
