Honeycomb Solar Thermal Collector
The Honeycomb Solar Thermal Collector (HSTC) uses a honeycomb insulating layer to minimize heat loss by suppressing convection. According to manufacturers, this honeycomb layer makes it particularly effective in cold climates, where many GSA facilities are located.
Researchers found that, for standard domestic hot water applications where water is heated by an array of solar collectors and stored in a tank, the HSTC technology was up to 8% more efficient than typical flat-plate collectors. View full-size infographic. [PDF - 271 KB]
