GSA awards lease agreement for CBP in Lewiston, N.Y.
The U.S. General Services Administration finalized a lease agreement last week on behalf of the Department of Homeland Security’s U.S. Customs and Border Protection for operational space at the Lewiston New York Border Inspection Facilities located at 5300 Lewiston Rd.
In accordance with GSA’s mission to acquire space on behalf of other government agencies, GSA signed a lease with the Niagara Falls Bridge Commission for 92,715 rentable square feet of space for a term of 20 years at a rate of $3,446,396 per year.
“GSA is pleased to have negotiated a lease for CBP that will result in great value for American taxpayers,” said GSA’s Northeast and Caribbean Regional Administrator John A. Sarcone III. “The lease agreement is a vital step in the process to construct an approximately $80 million project at this iconic land port of entry just north of Niagara Falls.”
“The Lewiston Bridge is an important gateway into the United States. CBP processes over one million passenger vehicles and over 350,000 commercial trucks at this crossing location,” said CBP Area Port Director Cary Frieling. “The current administrative building is over 50 years old. This new facility will provide our officers with the modern facility necessary to complete their important security mission, while also expanding processing capabilities, which will improve efficiency at the border crossing.”
Lease details:
- The lease is for 92,715 rentable square feet of space for a new main administration building, primary and secondary canopies, passenger and commercial primary inspection lanes, garages and expanded parking.
- The agreed-to rate of $37.20 per rentable square foot is consistent with prevailing market rates for similar specialized space and reflects no steps or increases other than those associated with the consumer price index and operating cost adjustment.
