GSA.gov unavailable during weekend maintenance

GSA awards $8.6 million in contracts for architectural and engineering services for the Fort Fairfield and Limestone, Maine, Land Port of Entry projects

Funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, this award is part of President Biden’s Investing in America Agenda

BOSTON – The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) has awarded two contracts for architectural and engineering services for the Land Port of Entry Projects in Fort Fairfield and Limestone, Maine.

Funded through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, GSA awarded a $4.75 million contract to AECOM for Fort Fairfield, Maine, to provide concept, design development and construction documents, as well as construction administration support.

GSA also awarded a $3.8 million contract to AECOM for Limestone, Maine, to provide concept, design development and construction documents, as well as construction administration support.

GSA’s goals for the Fort Fairfield and Limestone ports are to build long-lasting and durable ports that provide adequate operational space, reduce traffic congestion, and enhance safety conditions for employees and travelers.

These projects will assist the U.S. Department of Homeland Security - Customs and Border Protection (CBP) carry out its mission at the Fort Fairfield and Limestone, Maine, international border crossings.

The projects will provide new ports that are functional and accessible, incorporate sustainability features that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions, mitigate environmental impact and simultaneously increase the mission readiness of the federal government by increasing resilience to climate change.

Additionally, as part of the ongoing design work at the Limestone port, GSA and CBP evaluated a potential port closure at Limestone to potentially expedite the project schedule and reduce construction cost risks. In reviewing impacts to the Limestone community, local businesses and cross-border commerce, GSA and CBP decided not pursue a complete port closure during construction of the Limestone LPOE. Intermittent or partial closures may be necessary as new utility lines are connected and as new vehicular lane configurations are constructed. However, every effort will be made to minimize the duration of any intermittent closures.

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law includes a total of $3.4 billion for GSA to build and modernize land ports of entry on the country’s northern and southern borders. The investments will improve commerce and trade, create good-paying construction jobs, and incorporate new and innovative sustainability features.
