GSA seeks Expressions of Interest for site of new courthouse
DES MOINES, IOWA — The U.S. General Services Administration has posted a Request for Expressions of Interest for a site to be used for the development of a new U.S. Courthouse. GSA will consider donated sites and sites to be sold to the government.
See the Request for Expressions of Interest for specific requirements and details.
In April, GSA announced it will allocate $136,602,000.00 for the site acquisition, design and construction of a new 230,000-square-foot U.S. Courthouse. The proposed facility will provide 9 courtrooms and 13 chambers to replace the aging courthouse in downtown Des Moines and a leased Courthouse Annex.
“We’ve been working closely with Des Moines community leaders to better understand the best options for the site of the new courthouse,” said GSA Regional Administrator Jason Klumb. “This is the beginning of our formal process to select its location.”
The site of the courthouse is expected to have a significant economic impact in the community as its location will determine where court workers and visitors go every day. GSA will strategically use this opportunity to balance the needs of the courts while also helping to spur economic development. Similar projects have contributed to reducing the government’s environmental footprint, creating valuable savings, and serving the neighborhoods where we reside in a positive way.
Expressions of interest should be submitted to GSA in letter form on or before Aug. 16, 2016. Instructions on how to prepare and where to send the letter are included in the request.
GSA plans to identify a site by Spring 2017.
